A significant step forward in the integration of real-world assets (RWAs) with decentralized finance has been announced. A prominent self-custodial wallet provider has enhanced its Decentralized Exchange (DEX) Aggregator API, now enabling partners to conduct market-order trading for tokenized real-world assets, including tokenized equities. This development allows for seamless execution of trades from any token directly into tokenized stocks, utilizing the same API infrastructure previously employed for standard cryptocurrency swaps.
Bridging the Gap in RWA Trading
The total on-chain value of tokenized real-world assets has surged to an impressive $31 billion, with tokenized equities alone representing $1.6 billion. Despite this growth, on-chain trading of these assets has historically presented challenges, often forcing platforms to compromise between accurate pricing with poor fill rates or flexible routing with insufficient liquidity. This new API upgrade aims to resolve these issues by offering both accuracy and liquidity without requiring partners to assume market-making risks.
An Innovative Routing Model
At the heart of this advancement is an all-Request-for-Quote (RFQ) multi-hop routing model, a pioneering application for RWA token trading. Each segment of a trade is confirmed through RFQ liquidity before being submitted on-chain. This innovative approach effectively eliminates the partial-fill problem that has rendered any-token-to-RWA execution impractical on other platforms. Early integrations include notable RWA platforms such as Ondo Finance and xStocks, with further partnerships anticipated.
The system supports a wide array of tokenized real-world assets, encompassing US-listed equities, American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), and a comprehensive selection of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). This includes broad market indices, sector-specific and thematic funds, fixed-income instruments, commodities, and various regional market exposures. Users can now buy and sell these diverse assets within a single interface, directly from any token, without needing to leave their existing platform.
Enhanced Pricing and User Experience
To ensure up-to-date pricing across all integrated issuers, the system refreshes price quotes every five seconds. Alvin Kan, COO of the wallet provider, commented on the market’s liquidity challenges, stating, “The RWA market has a liquidity problem that most people haven’t articulated clearly. What we’ve built is a routing architecture that makes RFQ work the way market participants actually need it to — deterministic, fast, and without requiring integrators to take on market-making risk. That’s the missing layer, and we’re the first to close it.”
The enhanced API provides partners with a unified connection point for token swaps, cross-chain transactions, real-time market data, and now, RWA trading. This robust API already processes over $20 million in average daily trading volume from its aggregator partners and has seen integration from platforms like 0x, LI.FI, CoW Swap, deBridge, and XOSwap.
Streamlined Fee Collection
Further simplifying operations for partners, the upgrade introduces a fee collection service. This allows integrated platforms to manage and settle transaction fees through the wallet provider’s billing system, negating the need to develop their own infrastructure. Enterprise API documentation and onboarding details are available through the provider’s dedicated web portals.
This development underscores the increasing demand for accessible and reliable trading of tokenized assets. While transparent blockchains offer a degree of openness, the ability to transact privately and securely remains a crucial aspect for many users. The introduction of private Bitcoin through infrastructure like Confidential Layer on platforms such as Zano highlights a growing need for such privacy-preserving systems. Similarly, the rise of decentralized stablecoins like fUSD, designed without centralized issuers capable of freezing funds, offers an alternative to traditional financial instruments susceptible to censorship and control. The expansion of RWA trading through enhanced APIs, when coupled with robust privacy solutions, could pave the way for a more inclusive and secure digital financial landscape.
