Vivica A. Fox built her Hollywood career on determination and smart choices. Leaving Indianapolis at 18 for Huntington Beach, she earned an associate’s degree in social sciences at Golden West College to honor her mother’s wishes. Weekends meant driving to Los Angeles for auditions, where she first danced on Soul Train and later landed her acting debut as Dr. Stephanie Simmons on The Young and the Restless—a role she recently revived after over three decades.
Fox’s film highlights include Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Two Can Play That Game, Soul Food, and Set It Off, marking its 30th anniversary this year. Her newest role comes in Is God Is, a film adaptation of Aleshea Harris’s award-winning play. Fox portrays God, the resilient mother of twin sisters seeking vengeance against their abusive father. Burned and abandoned, her character delivers a stark directive: “Make your daddy dead. Real dead.” Harris chose Fox specifically for the part.
“I felt so honored,” Fox shares. “Diving into the script, I realized it showed a side of me no one has seen. It was challenging, but a no-brainer—we rarely get opportunities like this.”

6:30 a.m.: Morning Coffee Kickstart
An early riser by habit—geared for early sets or East Coast emails—Fox starts with a quick Starbucks run. She opts for a venti white chocolate mocha with an extra espresso shot, skipping the whipped cream, paired with a sausage and egg sandwich.
8 a.m.: Rejuvenation at Natural Hot Springs
Next, she heads to Beverly Hot Springs for a full body care treatment. Staff apply oil from head to toe, shampoo her hair, and apply a cucumber-yogurt mask, followed by a facial and a relaxing float in the natural alkaline waters—one of LA’s few authentic hot spring spas.
2 p.m.: Rooftop Lunch with Epic Views
Refreshed, Fox meets a friend at the Waldorf Astoria’s rooftop restaurant for its stunning 360-degree panorama of the city on clear days. She begins with caviar fries and a spicy margarita rimmed with tajin, then chooses salmon with spinach or a cheeseburger on indulgent days.
4 p.m.: Culture, Sports, or Rest
A short nap recharges her, unless her godson Quentin Blanton Jr. performs as young Michael in MJ: The Musical at Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Otherwise, she catches a Chargers football game or Lakers basketball match. Raised in Indiana on sports, Fox cherishes the Lakers, reminiscing about walking to Inglewood games during the Magic era and later Kobe’s time at what became Crypto.com Arena.
9 p.m.: Relaxed Wind-Down
The evening closes at the Lakers’ Delta Club with a glass of wine, followed by LaCroix for hydration. Fox aims for bed before midnight, savoring the freedom of her chosen rhythm.
